The global sportsbook operator currently offers wagering via the Meadowlands Racetrack license.

The market access for the casino product, however, will come via a multiyear partnership with Twin River Worldwide Holdings.

More on the Points Bet–Twin River deal

Obviously, this is a pretty big deal for both companies.

PointsBet is gaining access to an NJ online casino market that has reported two straight $80 million months. And Twin River has its first of what will likely be several online gambling partnerships.

Both parties are pretty upbeat about the news.

Here is what Manjit Gombra Singh, PointsBet president of product and technology, had to say:

“PointsBet is thrilled to partner with Twin River to offer its flagship online casino product in New Jersey as a complement to its critically acclaimed sportsbook.

“PointsBet continues to innovate and iterate upon its proprietary technology profile, and this agreement is yet another signal that PointsBet remains focused on providing a modern gaming experience for modern times.”

George Papanier, president and CRO of Twin River, called PointsBet “a great addition to our growing partnerships with innovative leaders around the world.”

“Adding an exciting iGaming experience with such a prominent partner, as well as significant property upgrades to the Bally’s facility, including renovated hotel rooms, a full-service spa, updated convention space, revitalizing the slot floor and dramatically improving the food and beverage amenities, we have an ambitious plan to fundamentally transform the property,” said Papanier.

“We are also extremely excited to have the opportunity to participate in the best-in-class mobile gaming environment that New Jersey has created and that we believe will bring new and innovative offerings to the market.”

PointsBet is a familiar NJ sports betting brand

Customers keeping tabs on the NJ sports betting apps know the PointsBet name. The launch dates back to December 2018.

However, a mobile sports betting operator cannot offer online casino games via a racetrack’s license. An NJ internet gaming license is required, which Meadowlands and the other two NJ racetracks cannot apply for.

It’s not unheard of to operate under multiple licenses. William Hill, for instance, has deals with Tropicana, Ocean Casino and Monmouth Park.

The SugarHouse Casinoapp is part of the Golden Nuggetportfolio, while its sportsbook is one of three skins operating under the Monmouth license. TheScore Bet is the third.

In the same vein, PointsBet would be joining a long list of NJ online sports betting sites with a complementary online casino.

When will the PointsBet online casino launch?

As far as timing goes, the PointsBet online casino launch date has yet to be announced. However, the press release provides a general timeline, saying the New Jersey launch “will be a fast follow of its debut in the state of Michigan, expected in the second half of 2020.”

The online casino will feature the operator’s custom-built proprietary casino technology.

Seth Young, PointsBet’s chief innovation officer, provides more insight as to what customers should expect.

“We are proud to offer a premium player experience with PointsBet’s own technology and in-house operations. Our end-to-end ownership of the underlying platform enables us to offer a differentiated product on our own timeline, scale economically across jurisdictions and improve client experience with rich data insights,” said Young.

“PointsBet’s approach is unique and competitively advantageous. We look forward to working closely with Twin River and illustrating for the online consumer a premium product experience with rich content, speed and ease of use powered by our modern platform.”

Could a PointsBet-branded retail sportsbook be next?

Technically speaking, Bally’s currently has a retail sportsbook.

“Currently” is the key word, though.

Following the Twin River sale, Atlantic City’s largest sportsbook will become part of Caesars AC(along with the Wild Wild West Casino). And during a recent interview with Play NJ, Twin River made it clear that a retail sports betting operation is part of its plans.

The Twin River team said there are a couple of high-exposure spaces off of the Boardwalk under consideration. And, Papanier noted, “we think either one of them could create a pretty nice impression.”

So behind the scenes, a PointsBet-branded space could be included in those plans.

It would be another big name with an international following in Atlantic City. Resorts went with DraftKings Sportsbook for its retail space. William Hill is the brand name of Ocean Casino’s book, and BetMGM Sportsbookis the rebranded space at Borgata.
